Futur Proche, Le futur proche

The futur proche (near future) expresses actions that are about to happen or are planned for the near future. It is equivalent to 'going to + verb' in English. It is formed with the verb 'aller' (to go) in the present tense + infinitive.

Rules

Formation: subject + aller (present tense) + infinitive
Je vais + infinitive, Tu vas + infinitive, Il/Elle va + infinitive
Nous allons + infinitive, Vous allez + infinitive, Ils/Elles vont + infinitive
Very common in everyday speech for near-future plans

Examples

Je vais manger. (I am going to eat.)
Elle va partir demain. (She is going to leave tomorrow.)
Nous allons regarder un film. (We are going to watch a film.)
Il va pleuvoir ce soir. (It is going to rain tonight.)
Tu vas réussir ton examen. (You are going to pass your exam.)
Ils vont voyager en Espagne. (They are going to travel to Spain.)
